Artists Chloë Reid and Rhona Mühlebach have worked together remotely and in person over several years, sharing critical feedback and resources, and workshopping their practices in addition to a number of collaborative projects.
In ‘Neither Hideous nor Tedious’ narratives unfold through an intensive process of drawing, writing and rehearsal. Two iterations of the project have been realised in Johannesburg to date.
The first iteration played out during a residency at Nirox, Johannesburg in January 2025 and featured a disillusioned primary character named Grim Visage, who exacts revenge on behalf of those who feel they have been wronged. The second iteration at NO END Contemporary in September 2025, saw a large burrowing clam being brought into Planet Fitness to assist with persistent filtration issues.
The artists worked with a range of practitioners to provide critical feedback and support in performance.
